On June 15, 2012, Nik Wallenda crossed Niagara Falls on live TV. On June 23, 2013, he became the first person to high-wire walk across a Grand Canyon area gorge over the Little Colorado River. And then on November 2, 2014, Wallenda completed two tightrope walks, setting 2 new Guinness World Records: one for walking the steepest tightrope incline between two buildings, and the other for the highest tightrope walk while blindfolded. Wallenda is a devout Christian.
Can you imagine the amount of focus it takes to perform such feats? I wish I had Wallenda’s laser sharp focus. Not necessarily for walking 100s of feet above the ground (I wouldn’t dare), but more for remaining focused on God. As Christians, we should do all we can to keep our focus fixed on the Lord.
Colossians 3:2 … Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
Proverbs 4:25 … Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you.
God should be before anything and everything in our lives. Before our pursuit of money, before our pursuit of pleasure, and even before our families. Matthew 6:33 … But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Many people have a difficult time applying this, myself included. If we realize, however, that putting God first does not diminish our love for our families, but rather intensifies it, we can learn to let our focus rest on God.
So, we should place all pursuits secondary to our pursuit of the Lord and He will fill our lives abundantly. Romans 8:5 … For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
