Many Christians, myself included, struggle with the idea of allowing Jesus to lead us.  We like being in control and when others are in control it can cause us anxiety.

The Lord wants our hearts, He tells us this repeatedly in His Word.

John 14:15 … “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

Psalm 119:10 … With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!

Proverbs 23:26 … My son, give me your heart and let your eyes delight in my ways

Proverbs 22:11 … He who loves purity of heart, and whose speech is gracious, will have the king as his friend.

The Lord does not want us to give up control of our lives, but rather, He wants us to trust Him and seek His ways.  When we are seeking Him and trusting in Him we are choosing to go down paths that will provide blessing for us and/or for others.

Proverbs 3:5-6 … Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Additionally, when we are seeking/trusting Him we no longer desire the things of this world, like we once did.  We still may feel the pull of these things, but the Holy Spirit, who dwells within us is prodding us to die to self.

Romans 12:1 … Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

Dying to self is not an overnight process, however.  Alan Redpath says it so eloquently in his book, “Making of a Man of God”.  “It takes but a moment to make a convert; it takes a lifetime to manufacture a saint.”

We are so blessed, that God does not give up on us during the “manufacturing” process.  In His unlimited love, He waits patiently for us to grow into the men and women He knows we can become.

1 Corinthians 13:4 … Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant,

So, do not get discouraged when you stumble and feel yourself backsliding.  Repent from your sin and seek the Lord.  He is ALWAYS ready to take us back.

James 4:8 … Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
